Is the zeolite a possible substitute of akadama? And what percentage do i have to use?
Zeolite is more of a substitute for lava rock. Akadama is our main ingredient in our in organic mix's due to both its moisture retention and also its cation exchange capacity ( ability to hold nutrients ). It also has a unique structure in which it can slip roots as they grow into it causing a ramifying root system that becomes very fine which results in the same type of growth on the tree.
Lava rock hasn't nutrient retention, while that of zeolite is very high.
My problem was that here we have winters really cold and the akadama breaks down easily.
Water retention is not a problem, because i can water the trees multiple times a day if necessary.
My only problem was the nutrient retention.
