For those of you who follow the YouTube channel you may have seen this tree make an appearance on the channel today. It is a Swamp Cypress that has been in development with me for around the last 3 years or so. In this time the tree had been allowed to grow very tall, Then it was cut back hard near the base leaving a smaller branch as the new leader which is what you now see as the main trunk line, After that i let the tree grow again and the main trunk line gained some thickness fairly quickly. I then had to allow the first branch to grow out very long so i could get it thicker then the new leader for proper taper.
Now the time had come to cut that first branch back hard to begin building secondary branches and taper and get the tree into a Bonsai pot so i can begin Refinement. This season i will allow the tree to fully flush and gain vigour, the top of the tree will be kept short while i allow the lower branches to begin to build and gain some extra thickness. once I'm happy and cut them back once more i will work on the top, but slow and steady wins the Bonsai Marathon.
