I’m a big fan of Slip Potting as I lack the luxury of having land available to field plant.
My question is this, I want to work on trunk thickness and have heard a lot of talk about growing sacrificial branches. But I have heard nothing about when I should prune back those branches or any new growth?
Do I cut back at the end of each growing season or do I just let the tree go wild and untouched until it’s the thickness I was hoping for? If I am to cutback at the end of the season then how much do I prune?
many thanks and sorry for what is probably such a stupid question to those experienced.
