Do silver maples make good bonsai? I just bought a house, and part of the yard is quite overgrown. There's a number of, what I think, are silver maple saplings. Maybe 5 years old max. Most are about 1m tall, some a bit taller. They're so dense though... If you want a silver maple, come and get it. Yamadori!!

Thanks for that answer. 👍
Pretty sure all maples make good bonsai. The biggest "problem" is finding out how much the leaf sizes can be reduced and thus how big the resulting tree must be in order to be a convincing tree.
From what I can see on the internet and from some of the bonsai youtubers out there is that the nodes between the leafs are usually far appart and the leafs don't reduce in size a lot. So in order to make "good bonsai" it will need to be a big tree in a big pot.
One of the few silver maples I can find being developed as a bonsai.
